Dr. Gabor Mate

Dr. Gabor Mate M.D. is a physician, author, seminar leader and public speaker. In 2009 Dr. Mate was honored with an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Simon Fraser University.  He is a former medical columnist for The Vancouver Sun and The Globe and Mail. For twenty years Dr. Mate had a family practice, and for seven years was Medical Coordinator of the Palliative Care Unit at Vancouver Hospital. For the past twelve years he has worked in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with patients challenged by hard core drug addiction, mental illness and HIV.

Francoise Mathieu

Francoise is a certified mental health counselor and compassion fatigue specialist. Francoise is the director of WHP – Workshops for the Helping Professions whose aim is to offer counseling, consulting and training to helpers on topics related to self care, wellness, burnout and compassion fatigue. Francoise also runs a successful private practice with individuals and couples. Francoise provides evidence-based solutions to helpers seeking validation and strategies to remain healthy while working in this challenging and rewarding field.
